Family awarded more than $30 million after mother’s death at Memphis nursing home
Martha Jane Pierce moved into Allenbrooke Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center after her dementia worsened. According to the family’s attorney, Cameron Jehl, for a woman in her 80s, even with progressing dementia, she was doing okay. Unfortunately, Mrs. Pierce died at Allenbrooke in 2009 when was 82-years-old.
While she was in the nursing home, she suffered from malnutrition, dehydration and more. Her family contacted Jehl Law Group and sued the nursing home, its parent company and several other executives a year later.
A jury ruled in their favor and returned a verdict with damages worth more than $30 million. Read more about the case.

Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect
Abuse and neglect in nursing homes is, unfortunately, quite common. Abuse can also negatively impact the emotional well-being of your loved one or be financial in nature.
Medical negligence by physicians, hospitals, and other medical facilities, though not intentional, can have a devastating and lasting impact on the patient and their loved ones.
Tennessee law allows for a short period of time during which a case must be filed. Therefore, an experienced attorney must quickly launch an investigation and determine the sense of the damages that may be awarded.
In some cases, products fail or otherwise negatively impact the consumer. A person may have a valid claim resulting from the use of a number of different products.

There are a number of federal regulations that govern long term health care facilities set forth in Nursing Home Reform Act. The basic gist of the Act is that nursing homes must provide services and care to attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental and psychosocial well-being of each resident. Additionally this care must be given based on written documentation for each resident, known as an individualized plan of care.
